Diabetes Learning Sessions in Paducah began Jan. 7

The Purchase District Health Department offers Diabetes Learning Sessions each Wednesday in January from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Lone Oak Church of Christ, 2960 Lone Oak Road in Paducah. There is no charge for these sessions on leaning how to manage diabetes, from medications to meal planning to physical activity. THE AMERICAN SPIRITUAL ENSEMBLE at the Alhambra Feb 6

The Pennyroyal Arts Council will present The American Spiritual Ensemble, sponsored by the Human Relations Commission, on Friday, February 6th at 7:30pm at the Alhambra Theatre in downtown Hopkinsville. Gaither Homecoming Event Feb 27, 2004

Grammy Award-winning gospel artist Bill Gaither and the Gaither Vocal Band bring the Gaither Homecoming Concert to the AIU Arena in Carbondale on Friday, February 27th at 7 P.M. West KY Crime Stoppers

In 1998, CRIME STOPPERS worked with the local school systems to establish a toll-free tip line for students in all city and county schools. Students may call anonymously to report weapons, drugs, violence or any potential problems they may know about. That toll-free number is 1-877-730-7867.

Blood Drive

While 60 percent of the population is medically eligible to donate blood, only 5 percent do. Blood banks in this area are moving blood supplies between hospitals and importing supplies from other areas to keep up with an ever-increasing demand, but shortages still occur. The Tennessee Valley Blood Services Region extends an emergency appeal to all donors who are healthy, at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and have not given blood in the last 56 days. AIMS

Adventures in Math and Science, an Upward Bound program at Murray State is
looking for first generation/low income high school students in this region.

Participants are involved in science research projects and classes in math, creative writing, foreign languages as well as physical education, journalism and robotics.

Support Group at Pennyroyal Center

The National Alliance for the Mentally Ill support group is for families of those who suffer from mental illness. The group meets the first Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. at the United Way / Fowler Building at 254 East Center Street in Madisonville. The Pennyroyal Center is a private, not-for-profit organization with services for behavioral health, developmental disability and substance abuse.


Free ESL Classes
People learning English as a second language have a chance to improve their communication skills for free. Every Sunday, from 3-5 pm, experienced instructors are conducting English classes on the first floor of Faculty Hall on Murray State's campus. No formal registration is required. (762-4715)

Eagle Tours

Land Between the Lakes is offering staff-led van tours to eagle viewing hot spots. On Saturdays, tours are 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. On Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and Sundays, tours are 1 to 4 p.m. Register at 270-924-2020. Space is limited and there is a small fee for the tours.

Lewis & Clark Expedition Quilts at MAQS October 4 - January 3, 2004

From October 4th through January 3rd, the Museum of the American Quilter's Society, Paducah, will display select quilts from the American Quilter's Society Lewis & Clark theme quilt contest. Quilters were challenged to depict some aspect of the Lewis and Clark Expedition that shaped the boundaries and future of the United States. The Museum of the American Quilter's Society in downtown Paducah is open 10 A.M. to 5 P.M. Monday through Saturday and Sundays from 1 to 5 P.M.

Adsmore Museum "Home from Washington, D.C." through November 2

Princeton's Adsmore Museum continues the story of John and Selina Smith Osborne, with the new display "Home from Washington, D.C." through November 2nd. John Osborne served as Undersecretary of State in the Wilson Administration and the display features the family's collection of furniture, clothing and personal mementos of the early 1900's. The Adsmore Museum is at 304 N. Jefferson in Princeton, Kentucky. It is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 A.M. to 4 PM and Sunday 1:30 to 4.


Barlow House Museum

Paducah Railroad Museum
Come learn about local and regional railroad history at the Paducah Railroad Museum, a museum operated by the National Railway Historical Society. The museum, located at the corner of 3rd and Washington, is open from 10 am to 4 pm every Saturday or by appointment. Admission to the museum is free.

Customs House Museum
The Customs House Museum and Cultural Center at Second and Commerce   Streets in Clarksville offers a wide variety of permanent and traveling exhibits that showcase creativity and ingenuity of the human spirit. Ft. Massac Museum

Hundreds of people in Kentucky are severely injured or killed in motor vehicle, motorcycle, bicycle, or ATV accidents each year. Four Rivers

Backcountry Camping'

Backcountry campers visiting Land Between the Lakes this year have a new option for camping permits. Campers can now elect to purchase a three-day camping permit at just 5 dollars per person or an annual permit for 15 dollars per person. All backcountry campers age 18 and older must have a permit. Blood Donations Encouraged
The Murray-Calloway County Blood Bank asks area residents to consider donating blood to help decrease blood shortages in the area. Blood donations are especially important now due to war. Donations do not go to the war effort, but do allow the local blood bank to not have to purchase blood from the Red Cross who does provide blood to injured soldiers. Blood donors must be at least 18 years old and weigh 110 lbs.

Compulsive overeating can shorten your life. Now there is a support organization called Overeaters Anonymous for compulsive overeaters. The program offers a plan of recovery, and caries no fees or dues. You can learn more about the organization at www.oa.org
