Clarksville police have arrested four suspects, including a state prosecutor's adult son, in a home invasion robbery. The Clarksville Leaf-Chronicle reports John Wesley Carney III was booked into the Montgomery County Jail Friday, charged with robbery and kidnapping.

Police are investigating the fatal shooting of 32-year-old Clarksville woman.

WKRN-TV reports that officers responded to a shooting in progress around 3 a.m. Sunday. When they arrived on the scene they discovered a woman had been shot and was lying between two buildings. She was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

A machinists union has reached an agreement on a new 4-year contract with Trane to avert a possible strike at Clarksville's largest private employer. The International Association of Machinists and Trane agreed to a new 80/20 match Blue Cross/Blue Shield Health Insurance Plan effective Jan. 1 of next year. There will be no change in existing plans or employee premium contributions for the remainder of 2013, and the employee premium contribution won’t increase in 2014.

U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack makes a Tennessee visit today to discuss the importance of passing comprehensive food, farm and jobs legislation. He will also talk about revitalizing small rural businesses and communities. Vilsack's stops include Cedar Hill and Clarksville. Officials say Tennessee farm income rose from $447 million in 2010 to almost $800 dollars in 2011.

APSU to Hold Second Walk to Afghanistan Project

The Clarksville, Tenn., Mayor’s Fitness Council joins Austin Peay State University’s second Walk to Afghanistan Project to honor deployed soldiers. Participants in the October 22 event, which include families of the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, are encouraged to walk the distance from Clarksville to Afghanistan. That’s roughly 10,644 miles. Project organizers will hold other Walk to Afghanistan events during the coming months but suggest participants to schedule their own impromptu walking events. Participants can sign in for the October walk at the Governor’s stadium from 4:30 p.m.

Clarksville Babysitter Charged with Abuse

A Clarksville babysitter has been charged with abusing a 2-month-old boy. Police say Jessica Watkins turned herself in Saturday and is facing charges of aggravated child abuse and neglect. The infant was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center for multiple broken bones last month. Watkins called the boy’s mother and said he had a swollen leg. She told the police the infant’s leg popped when she took him out of the car while babysitting him. The police issued a warrant for Watkins and Montgomery County jail officials say she is being held on a $50,000 bond.
