We've met Jenny Bowker, wife of the former Australian Ambassador to Egypt, who initiated introducing Egyptian craftsmen's quilts to the world. We've spoken with Meredith Schroeder who co-founded the American Quilters Society and this year is being inducted into the Quilters Hall of Fame. Today, Kate Lochte brings an interview with the person who directs and organizes the American Quilters Society Show and Contest, which starts Wednesday at the Convention Center in Paducah. She opened by asking Bonnie Browning how many "hats" she actually wears in her work.

Starting out with husband Bill as a publisher of books on collectibles, Meredith Schroeder co-founded the American Quilter's Society or AQS, and this year she is being inducted into the Quilters Hall of Fame. They simply thought that quilts should be recognized as art. This notion changed both their business and their city. In late March Kate Lochte spoke with Meredith Schroeder to learn more.

Tens of thousands of visitors will be in our region to view the contemporary art of quilting in a myriad of styles, methods, and materials during the AQS Quilt Show and Contest in Paducah the 24th through the 27th of April. Among these visitors will be two men from Cairo, Egypt who will be demonstrating their art of applique’, making works on the spot, exhibiting their textile art and selling works as well. Next we meet the woman who paved the way for these artisans to have access to the American marketplace. Kate Lochte interviews Jenny Bowker.

Quilting During the Civil War

The American Quilters Society’s annual show is winding down in Paducah, and quilters have seen nearly every fabric, design and stitch associated with the art of quilting. The city has been covered in quilts. Yet, as the 150^th anniversary of the Civil War continues, Casey Northcutt investigates a time when fabric was scarce and quilts were relief supplies sent to soldiers. Of the quilts women did manage to piece together, only a portion remains today, serving as a testament to the hardships of the time.
