In OVC football over the weekend. the Murray State Racers fell 35 to 38 to Jacksonville State’s Gamecocks Saturday. Elsewhere, SEMO beat Austin Peay 48 to 27. Eastern Kentucky lost to Eastern Illinois 24 to 7, and Tennessee State brought down Tennessee Tech 22 to 21.

MSU Falls to Martin at Homecoming

In OVC Football over the weekend, Murray State fell to UT Martin 66 to 59 in this year’s MSU Homecoming game. Tennessee State beat Southeast Missouri 40 to 28. Austin Peay lost to Eastern Kentucky 45 to 14. And Jacksonville State lost to Eastern Illinois 31 to 28.

In OVC football this weekend, Murray State beat Missouri State 28 to 23, Southeast Missouri fell to Southern Illinois 35 to 14, Eastern Kentucky won out over Coastal Carolina 35 to 17, Tennessee Tech lost to Oregon 63 to 14, Tennessee State beat Austin Peay 34 to 14, and Illinois State defeated Eastern Illinois 54 to 51.

New Murray State Basketball Ranks

The Ohio Valley Conference Champion Murray State Racers moved up one spot to number 11 in this week’s AP poll, and back one to number 10 in the ESPN rankings. The Racers defeated Tennessee Tech and Tennessee State in the OVC tournament over the weekend to take the championship and secure an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. While sports analysts agree MSU would have received an at-large bid anyway, the win should help the Racers get a higher seed in the tournament. They now await selection Sunday to find out who and where they will play next.

MSU Takes 15th OVC Championship

The Murray State Racers’ Men’s Basketball team won their 15^th Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Championship Saturday night with a 54 to 52 win over Tennessee State at Nashville’s Municipal Arena. The victory brings MSU’s season record to 30 and 1, as well as a 15^th appearance in the NCAA Tournament for the Racers as the OVC’s automatic bid. Murray State Forward Donte Pool was named the OVC Tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

This year’s OVC tournament continues in Nashville, Tennessee. In yesterday’s action, Tennessee Tech beat Southeast Missouri 77 to 73, and Morehead defeated Jacksonville State 68 to 54. The top-ranked Racers will face off against Tennessee Tech tonight at six, and number two-ranked Tennessee State plays Morehead at eight. The games will be carried on ESPN-U.

Racers Prepare for OVC Tournament

The number 12 ranked Murray State Racers are preparing for postseason play this week as the Ohio Valley Conference tournament tips off. The tournament started last night in Nashville, but the Racers don’t play until the semifinal round tomorrow night as they received two byes as the top team in the OVC. First year Head Coach Steve Prohm says while his 28-1 squad accomplished a great deal this season, there’s much more to do.

The OVC Men’s Basketball tournament kicked off in Nashville last night. In early round play, Southeast Missouri downed Eastern Kentucky, 75-65, and Jacksonville State beat Austin Peay, 75-70. Southeast Missouri moves on tonight to face Tennessee Tech, and Jacksonville State takes on Morehead State. The Murray State Racers have a bye until the semifinal tomorrow night, when they will face the winner of tonight’s SEMO-Tennessee Tech game.

MSU Finishes Undefeated Road Season

The number 14 ranked Murray State Racers wrapped up an undefeated road season with a 69 to 64 victory over Tennessee Tech Saturday night. This brings the OVC Champion Racers to 28 and 1 overall and sets them as the top seed in the conference tournament this week. MSU will get a bye to the semifinal game this Friday at 6 p.m.
