Murray, KY- Dedicated WKMS listeners and underwriters from western Kentucky, northwest Tennessee, and southernmost Illinois raised $131,177 in community support this spring to maintain Murray State’s NPR Station.

Murray, KY- Over 1,000 dedicated WKMS listeners and underwriters from western Kentucky, northwest Tennessee, and southernmost Illinois have raised nearly $118,000 towards a $130,000 goal in community support this spring. WKMS staff will fundraise on-air April 17 & 18 to give listeners a convenient way to meet goal by calling the station toll-free at 1-800-599-4737 or clicking “Contribute Now” at wkms.org, a secure pledge page, to make a gift.

Western Kentucky Historian & Musician Featured on Sounds Good

WKMS hosts a special early-bird fundraising event with live string band music in Studio A for Sounds Good with Tracy Ross. One of the rotating hosts of Music from the Front Porch, Mike Gowen, joins in to introduce old-time string music of the Purchase Region with Nathan Blake Lynn and Josh Coffey, known through Bawn in the Mash and other groups.

As part of today's special presentation, Nathan plays music from his historical music project titled The Places I Used To Know. The album features 10 original songs focused on Lynn’s experiences in the Jackson Purchase. All songs were written, performed, and engineered by Lynn at his farm in Heath, Kentucky. Non-Commercial, Educational Station WKMS Fundraising Underway

Murray, KY. Murray State’s NPR station, 91.3 WKMS is engaging listeners in the first fundraiser of 2013. The on-air portion of the fund drive begins March 6 and continues through March 16 with special guests and gifts.

WKMS Membership Coordinator Jenni Todd says, “Listeners who get in touch with us, with or without a commitment, by March 5 are included in an iPad Mini Giveaway on March 6.”

Listeners Exceed WKMS Fall Fundraiser and New Member Goal

Contributors to Murray State’s NPR station, 91.3 WKMS, exceeded the fall fundraiser goal of $130,000 in community support on October 31, 2012. A total of 1,104 contributions came from new and renewing donors from fifteen states.

Membership Coordinator Jenni Todd says, “WKMS set a goal of 150 new members for this fall’s membership campaign, and we are delighted to report that 175 listeners became members for the first time ever. Our long-standing renewing contributors are pleased to know our sustaining membership is growing.”

Listeners contributed over $90,000 in three weeks in September to take the fall fundraiser of Murray State’s NPR station, 91.3 WKMS-FM, to within 30 percent of completing its $130,000 goal in community support. WKMS Membership Coordinator Jenni Todd says, “During our on-air campaign we welcomed 120 new contributors with special gifts.” Todd adds, “we’ll be working with our renewing members to complete the fundraiser by mail or online, and we’re also working to add 30 more first time contributors to complete our 150 new member goal this fall.”

Listeners Reach WKMS Spring Fundraiser Goal

Dedicated listeners and underwriters met the WKMS spring fundraiser goal of $130,000 in community support in early May. WKMS-FM is the listener supported public media service of Murray State University, serving southernmost Illinois, northwestTennessee, and western Kentucky. Individual contributions and matching grants go to the WKMS budget for programming, transmission, and related expenses for the 100,000 watt public service.
