One week ago Hopkinsville Community College President Jim Selbe was reinstated after being placed on un-paid administrative leave for employee misconduct. Now Selbe is requesting to be reassigned to a new position within Kentucky Community and Technical College System.

Newly Reinstated HCC President, Selbe's Administrative Leave Was Due to Misconduct

Hopkinsville Community College President Jim Selbe was reinstated today after he was placed on un-paid administrative leave last week for employee misconduct.

The Kentucky Community and Technical College System conducted an investigation into Selbe’s misconduct and have since allowed him to return to work.

Selbe didn’t mention details of his misconduct but did apologize to those involved and his family. Selbe says he’ll face disciplinary action and attend workplace sensitivity training at his own expense.

Tomorrow, a week after Hopkinsville Community College President Jim Selbe announced a leave of absence, the HCC Board of Directors will meet in a closed session. HCC issued a press release today announcing tomorrow's meeting and a subsequent press conference related to Selbe's future with the institution. Selbe has been on administrative leave since last week. HCC spokesperson Rena Young refused to discuss the meeting, citing personnel issues. Selbe was not available for comment.

Hopkinsville Community College to Ban Smoking

Hopkinsville Community College is going tobacco-free policy starting Jan. 1. Smoking has long been prohibited in HCC buildings, but the college created four designated smoking areas on campus in 2008. The Hopkinsville City council enacted a city-wide smoking ban in October and HCC President Jim Selbe tells The Kentucky New Era their smoking areas would’ve violated the ban.

HCC Ranked Among Fastest Growing Community Colleges

Hopkinsville Community College made the list of fastest growing community colleges. The magazine Community College Week reports HCC grew 15.4 percent between 2010 and 2011, making it the 5^th fastest growing school in its size category.

Hopkinsville Community College Unveils Transition Center

Hopkinsville Community College plans to unveil a new center to ease students’ transition into a four-year university or the workforce. The Student Transition Center consolidates HCC’s career, transfer and veteran’s services. Murray State University, Lindsey Wilson College, Austin Peay University and Western Kentucky University are all on-site partners with the new center.

Hopkinsville Community College seeks applications for its Board of Directors. The Nominating Commission looks to fill three positions. Six-year terms expired in September for current board chair Bettie Wallace, vice chair John Rittenhouse III, and board member Gary Logan.
