Paris, Tennessee's Lee Academy for the Arts hosts a concert with Dan Knowles and his Hot Band Saturday, February 23 at 7 p.m. as a fundraiser for the academy, especially for the new ceramics program. Dan Knowles and Academy supporter Ray Hardy stopped by the studio today during Sounds Good to speak about the event and play some music.

Ky. Bluegrass Festival Successful Despite Dispute

An Ohio County festival honoring bluegrass pioneer Bill Monroe was successful despite a legal battle over using the music icon’s name and likeness. Festival Organizer Campbell Mercer says around 15,000 fans attended the Jerusalem Ridge Bluegrass Celebration last weekend. A court had stopped Mercer from using Monroe’s likeness or name in promotions. Campbell is in a dispute with Ohio County and the county industrial foundation. Both groups lay legal claim to Monroe’s name and image since they bought the rights from Monroe’s sons 13 years ago.

WKMS Broadcasts Live from ROMP Music Festival

Murray State's listener-supported public radio service 91.3 WKMS-FM presents special live broadcasts from ROMP on Friday and Saturday, June 29 and 30.

Opening the live broadcast Friday at 6 p.m. are The Farewell Drifters, an alt-folk band known for their ‘60s era-inspired harmonies. At 7:20 p.m. Lonesome River Band performs with longtime band member and multi-award winning banjo picker, Sammy Shelor. The Deadly Gentlemen take the stage at 8:40 p.m. performing a blend of epic folk and unconventional bluegrass. Punch Brothers featuring Chris Thile headline the night at 10 p.m.

Saturday at 6 p.m. hear Pokey LaFarge and the South City Three and their creative mix of American roots, western swing, early jazz and country blues. The 23 String Band follows at 7:20 p.m. playing bluegrass fueled by high-octane rock-n-roll. Old Crow Medicine Show headlines at 10 p.m with old-time folk and bluegrass. Other bands may be added to the broadcast schedule in the days leading up to the event.

Owensboro Considers Walk of Fame

Officials in a western Kentucky city are embracing the idea of creating a downtown Walk of Fame. Owensboro Mayor Ron Payne has city staff working on the idea this week after it was brought up last week during a City Commission workshop. The idea came from a downtown development group that proposed making NASCAR legend Darrell Waltrip the first inductee into the new Owensboro Walk of Fame next month.

The Infamous Stringdusters are touring Yonder Mountain String Band for the next two weeks. The 'Dusters just released their first recording from their independent label High Country Recordings called We'll Do It Live and will release their next album Silver Sky on March 12th.
