Flu Still Around in Kentucky

The flu may not be here to stay, but it’s certainly here for a little longer. In fact, State Epidemiologist Craig Humbaugh says the most recent report bumped influenza activity back up to the regional category. Humbaugh says another review will be done on Tuesday.

“It’s not unusual for us to see some peaks and valleys during the flu season. This has been a particularly long flu season cause it did start early for us in Kentucky and it’s continued on,” said Humbaugh.

Obion County Schools Closed

Obion County, Tenn., schools are closed today and tomorrow due to flu and other illnesses. Assistant Director of School and Student Services Dale Hollowell says 548 students were absent Wednesday, which is about 15 percent of students countywide.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says Kentucky has spent five weeks at its highest level of flu, which is far more than last year. That means more than half of the state’s regions have reported an increased number of cases.
