Lourdes Hospital hosts enrollment for CPS-3 in mid-November. This study continues over a half century of research that has confirmed links between smoking and obesity and cancer. Eric Walker is Associate Director for Mission Support of the American Cancer Society. He joins us on Sounds Good to explain what’s involved in enrolling in this national cancer prevention study. Lourdes Hospital hosts a two day enrollment program in mid-November.

Cancer Study Seeks Participants

A long-term cancer research is getting underway across the country. Beginning Tuesday, the American Cancer Society will sign up volunteers for its Cancer Prevention Study-3. It’s a longitudinal analysis of the various factors that cause or prevent cancer. Spokeswoman Stephanie Feger says participants will take a survey, have their waist measured, and give a small blood sample.

“Over the next 20-30 years, every two-three years the American Cancer Society will mail you a survey to update any of your lifestyle or behavioral or medical information.”

Long Term Cancer Study Looking for Kentucky Volunteers

A cancer research study that will span the next 20 to 30 years is looking for volunteers in the Commonwealth. The American Cancer Society will have sign-ups for its Cancer Prevention Study-3 this week at various locations across Louisville and central Kentucky. Spokeswoman Stephanie Feger says the CPS-3 builds on earlier longitudinal data.

Kentucky Healthcare Groups form Cancer Fighting Partnership

Several healthcare groups have come together in a public-private partnership to fight cancer in Kentucky.

The newly-formed Kentucky Cancer Foundation is part of a two-million-dollar initiative to help uninsured Kentuckians get cancer screenings.

In his proposed two year budget, Governor Steve Beshear earmarked half a million dollars each year for colon cancer screenings. He also proposed raising another million from a public-private partnership.
