Partners in Health

Partners In Health (PIH) is a Boston, Massachusetts-based non-profit health care organization dedicated to providing a "preferential option for the poor". In some senses, the model is simple: clinical and community barriers to care are removed as diagnosis and treatment are declared a public good and made available free of charge to patients living in poverty. This model of care provides an alternative to the conventional curative method of treatment for sick patients and instead tries to prevent diseases before they occur. PIH strives to bring good medical care to the poor by establishing long-term partnerships with local sister organizations. The people of Haiti, Peru, Russia, and Rwanda have seen the greatest portion of their work, especially in the treatment of tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS.

The organization’s president is Franklin Graham, son of Christian evangelist Billy Graham. The name of the organization is based on the New Testament Parable of the Good Samaritan, in which Jesus uses a parable to teach people the Great Commandment - how to "love thy neighbour as thyself".
