WKMS-FM Station manager met with prospective employees during career fair, October 12, 2006, Murray State University.

We continue to operate a news internship recruiting and training Murray State University students, undergraduate and graduate students, without prior broadcasting experience. The students acquire news reporting, research, writing, and digital editing skills. Of these students two advanced to on-air feature production and performance.

We continue to offer broadcast training to any volunteers who wish to become involved in the station. Usually we offer several hours of board training for potential air-talent, then offer them board work during the weekend. We also train volunteer commentators, should they wish to produce their own air product in WKMS studios.

WKMS maintains an open door for students who wish to job shadow from the local school systems. We have enjoyed new relationships from these monthly day-long employment modeling visits. The students have been of middle school and high school age and we've had one per semester up until this semester when the student involved dropped away from the program due to a death in her family. During their days at WKMS these students typically do jobs in all areas of the broadcast unit. One, an eighth grader, wrote copy for a press-release going out the next day…most of which was useable.

Mission Statement: WKMS broadcasts National Public Radio and local programs that inform enrich, and entertain in concert with the mission of Murray State University.
