Economic Development in Murray

Murray, KY – Ricochet's Fun Center opens in the Goody's space soon and Peebles Department Store officials have announced they will take over the old Dawahares location. Murray-Calloway County Development Director Mark Manning says it's not surprising these facilities are getting taken over so quickly. He says even though their corporations were going under, the local Goody's and Dawahares were still pretty healthy.

Cooper Pleads Guilty

Clarksville, TN – A former basketball coach from Clarksville has pleaded guilty in the killing of his former wife. As court was convened Monday for the start of Andrew Cooper's trial, his attorney announced the former Northwest High School coach had decided to plead guilty. Cooper was charged with killing his ex-wife Pamela in 2007 after police found the assistant principal dead in his pickup truck.

TN Handgun Bills up for Vote

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee House is scheduled to hear proposals that would allow people with handgun permits to carry their weapons in local and state parks. One bill would let local governments decide where to allow guns. For example, officials could allow them on greenways, but not at ballfields. The other measure, would allow handgun permit holders to carry guns in state parks. Both proposals are up for a full House vote this evening. Both bills are in the Senate Judiciary Committee awaiting a vote.

Alcohol on Sidewalks Ordinance

Paducah, KY – Paducah City Commissioners will discuss creation of a new alcohol-related ordinance tomorrow night in their commission workshop meeting. The Paducah Sun reports the ordinance would allow restaurants to serve alcohol at sidewalk seating tables. Restaurant owners and officials say the measure would increase the atmosphere of the city's downtown and bring in more business.
