Murray, KY – Kentucky State Attorney General Jack Conway accused a Wingo gas station of using the September 2008 windstorm to gouge prices. In a press conference yesterday, he listed eight stations, including the Wingo T-Mart, that had drastically increased prices while the state recovered from wind damage. Those stations will now face legal consequences. Conway, however, says he carefully targeted business that had maintained these prices for a substantial amount of time.

Hopkinsville, KY – The Hopkinsville City Council's Committee of the Whole meeting last night rejected a proposal to roll back a 3-percent cost of living adjustment. The Kentucky New Era reports City Administrative Officer Glenn Abee suggested the roll back to save nearly a hundred thousand dollars this fiscal year and three hundred and thirty thousand dollars next year. With no payroll deduction, Mayor Kemp says the city may have to start cutting positions.

Murray, KY – Governor Steve Beshear has appointed a Calloway County school official to a state board. Assistant Superintendent of Calloway County Schools Randy McCallon will serve on the advisory panel for exceptional children. His term runs through August 2011.

Paris, TN – An inmate faces additional charges after escaping from the Henry County, Tennessee jail. During his work detail, Eugene Spence briefly left the compound and returned a short time later. He has been removed from work detail and is now charged with escape. Spence was arrested in February 2005 for vehicular homicide after driving drunk and hitting and killing a Cottage Grove man with his truck. A release from the Sherriff's department says work detail guidelines have been changed to prevent future escape opportunities.
