Pension Reform

Frankfort, KY – As they work to cut budget gaps, cities and counties in Kentucky may get some relief on their employee retirement costs. Governor Steve Beshear has announced more recommendations for pension reform in the upcoming legislative session. He wants to allow cities and counties to spread out their required contributions over ten years rather than the current five-year period.

Consolidating Dispatches

Murray, KY – Emergency Management Director Bill Call says putting operations into one building would cut out time-consuming relay stations. He says emergency calls in Murray go to the city police.

"In the county 911 calls have to go to state police headquarters and then be transferred to the sheriff's office. So that's another step of delay that could be eliminated."

County Bridge Repairs

Frankfort, KY – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has appropriated thirty-seven thousand dollars in emergency funding to repair a Livingston County bridge. Officials say the bridge over Bayou Creek has erosion problems that are threatening the structure and its approach. Bids for the project open in January with repair work beginning as soon as the weather allows.

Trigg County Attorney Named to Top 10

Cadiz, KY – The Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services has ranked Trigg County Attorney H. B. Quinn as one of the ten top-performing child support contractors for the 2007-2008 year. Cabinet Spokesperson Anya Armes Weber tells the Cadiz Record the rankings are based on paternity establishments, child support orders and child support collections. Quinn says his office has been recognized as one of the top in the state at least eight times since 1986.
