Stateline Blues Host John Griffin Bids a Brief Adieu

If you listen to Stateline Blues on WKMS, you no doubt are acquainted with John Griffin, host of the program for 22 years. Now on half-time retirement with MSU after 29 years in the Waterfield Library, Continuing Education, and as adjunct in the Modern Language Department, John is resident director for MSU’s Semester in Regensburg Program, (1.5 hrs north of Munich, Germany). John embarks on his seventh trip to Regensburg, returning to WKMS in mid-December.

John learned the radio ropes from the late Bobby Bryan, former WKMS Jazz Producer and long-time host of Easy Street and Big Band Era. Having listened to and admired blues-rock during the 60's, when Bobby asked if John would be interested in doing a straight blues show, he jumped at the chance. Some of Griffin's favorites include Elmore James, Willie Dixon, and Skip James and neo-traditionalists such as Rory Block, Chris Thomas King, Alvin Youngblood Hart, Corey Harris, and Guy Davis.

Stateline Blues lovers needn't be dismayed at John's short leave of absence. The show will be hosted by WKMS' Bryan and Jen Bartlett. We will keep the mic on for John while he is away and look forward to his return late this year!

You Are Whatever a Moon
Has Always Meant
--E.E. Cummings--

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)
