Thanks to your support, WKMS
reached its spring fundraiser goal of $100,000 on Tuesday, March
13 at 3:33 p.m. With only $1087 left to meet goal, one loyal listener
called in and said, “How much do have left to go? Put me down for
that amount....” We were more than happy to oblige. Though the numbers
continue to be tallied, it’s safe to say this was our most successful
fundraiser to date. Thanks!
A lot of work
goes into our biannual fundraisers, and we could not complete the
task without the help of the community! Much thanks to the Murray
Woman’s Club and to the students and staff of Murray State’s Racerthon
for making calls to contributors throughout the fundraiser effort.
We also thank our on-air guests from Paducah, Benton, Madisonville,
Cadiz, Murray and Paris, TN, the WKMS Members that offered listener
challenges to encourage listener support, and the numerous volunteers
who offered their time to answer pledge calls.
Additional community support was shown with prizes donated for drawings,
including overnights at Kenlake State Resort Park, Lake Barkley
State Resort Park, a guitar from Main Street Music in Murray, a
uniquely baked loaf of bread bearing the station’s call letters
from Kirchhoff’s Bakery in Paducah, gift certificates to Dairy Queen
in Murray, Fidalgo Bay in Murray and 5th & Main Coffees
in Murray.

Digital
Antenna Installation Update
During fundraising moments we mentioned that the WKMS
digital antenna would be installed the week of March 19. It's no
surprise, for a project that has been delayed repeatedly, that we
now expect the work to occur at the first week in April.
We will keep you posted on the air about when to expect interruptions
to our signal so that tower climbers can reinforce its structure
and hoist up the digital antenna which actually goes inside the
present antenna.
We won't know what it sounds like or how far it reaches until we
fire up the digital transmitter which is already installed and waiting
to be connected. Many of us don't have digital receivers yet. If
you want to start looking at your options, here are the brand names
of models on the market that the engineers are talking about now:
Accurian and Boston Acoustic. There's also a tuner only component
- the Sangean HDT-1.
At this writing we haven't drawn names for WKMS listeners winning
the two Boston Acoustic HD Receivers we offered during the fundraiser.
Be listening on air to learn if you're chosen, like Martha Crafton
of Murray was earlier.
And again, thank you for helping WKMS move into the digital future.
Its promise is even more great public radio for you.
Drawing
Winners Coming Soon!
One lucky web pledger and one lucky caller from our
fundraiser will win a Boston Acoustics Digital Receiver!
We will be drawing these winners soon, so listen on air and check
www.wkms.org next week to see
if you're a winner.
The iPod giveaway drawing will close tonight at midnight,
so if you haven't entered it's not too late! Pledge
now!

Puccini's classic "Tosca" is the Glema Center's first opera
presentation. There is no more grand way to begin than with Opera
Verdi Europa, the Bulgarian State Opera Company that is fast gaining
an impressive international reputation. In "Tosca" Floria Tosca
and Mario Cavaradossi are in love and all they want is to be left
alone. Baron Scarpia, however, wants Floria for himself. Come see
this cast of 50 with full orchestra and sets to see how this drama
plays out!
