Volume 4: Issue 4 ~ March 2, 2007

Pledge now!

Our goal for listener support is an historic one that coincides with March marking the month of WKMS adding a digital signal to its transmission chain. In order to pay costs for programming, personnel and technology to split the digital signal into two programming streams, we have set the spring goal for listener support at $100,000.

Our on-air portion of the fundraiser begins tomorrow, March 3. Call us at 1-800-599-4737 and pledge! You can also pledge online at wkms.org, where you can choose from the same selection of thank you gifts as an on air pledger.

Make your pledge online before March 10 and your name is entered in a drawing for a new iPod Nano! There's no purchase necessary to win, but you can't lose by supporting your public radio station!

Click on the Win an iPod image below to make your pledge and enter the drawing! And thanks for your support!

Thanks again for your belief that WKMS is public radio worth supporting!

Thank you to our volunteers!

WKMS is fortunate to have a public radio community of friends who take time out of busy schedules to pledge, volunteer, serve as
on-air guests, provide listener and corporate challenges, and offer testimonials. Thank you so much to everyone who has already stepped up to help public radio!

If you'd like to volunteer during our on-air fundraiser, call us at 1-800-599-4737 or email stephanie.nutterosborne@murraystate.edu.

We can't do without you!

Congratulations to WKMS member Martha Crafton of Murray, winner of our first fundraiser drawing for the Boston Acoustics Digital Receiver. Two more receivers will be given away - one to a lucky online registrant, another to someone who calls in during the on-air drive.

Pledge now for your chance to win!

Murray State University Presidential Lecture 2007

Murray State University presents
Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto,
March 13 at 7 p.m. in Lovett auditorium. FREE ADMISSION.

As the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Benazir Bhutto is a living icon of the battle for democracy and stands with only a handful of female executive leaders who have shaped the global events of the last century. First elected Prime Minister at the age of 35, Ms. Bhutto became the youngest Chief Executive Officer in the world and the first female Prime Minister in the Muslim world. After just 20 months in office, her government was unconstitutionally dismissed by a rival political party. Undeterred, she was reelected as Prime Minister in 1993.

During her terms of office, she was faced with an enormous challenge: how to effectively govern a poor, politically fractious and ethnically diverse nation. Prime Minister Bhutto was praised for moving swiftly to restore civil liberties and political freedom, suspended under military rule. She launched a nationwide program of health and education reform.

Although no longer Prime Minister, Benazir Bhutto is Chairperson of the Pakistan Peoples Party. In her speeches, Prime Minister Bhutto speaks of being a “Daughter of Destiny” and shares her dramatic journey as the youngest ever popularly elected woman in the Muslim world. With knowledge born of her position in the global power structure, Prime Minister Bhutto offers a window into the Muslim World and the epic political power struggles being played out in all corners of the world today.
