Hopkins Country residents still fuming over smoking ban

Murray, KY – Hopkins County residents have been tossed back and forth between two different smoking bans in the recent past. The issue has stirred up controversy, and has many questioning the constitutionality of such a ban. Chad Lampe speaks with Madisonville Messenger Executive Editor Tom Clinton about the smoking ban and other issues facing Madisonville and Hopkins County.

Price tag for Kentucky ice storm recovery

Murray, KY – Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear estimates current recovery costs for the January ice storm at more than 215 million dollars, and they're continuing to rise. Recently Federal Emergency Management officials have extended reimbursement options to some public utility companies, and that may ease the burden on some electric customers. Chad Lampe speaks with FEMA public information officer Diana Gee.

KCTCS Tenure Denial

Louisville, KY – The Board of Regents that oversees Kentucky's 16 community and technical colleges has approved a controversial policy that eliminates tenure for new faculty. Effective July first, new faculty members hired into the system will be under contract rather than on a tenure track. Board Chairman Richard Bean says it will give schools more flexibility in making curriculum and personnel changes, but denies the move is a response to the state budget crisis.
