  • All new members can receive a one year subscription to Newsweek magazine. All current members are eligible for the Newsweek subscription with a contribution of $40 or more.

  • With a pledge of $150 or more you have two premium options - the Day Sponsorship or Eton Emergency Radio.

    • Eton RadioWKMS members could choose the Day Sponsorship to say Happy Birthday, Happy Anniversary or Congratulations to a friend or loved one. We'll work with you and read your announcement 10 times during one day to make it a special day for someone.

    • The other premium offered for a pledge of $150 is the Eton Emergency Crank Radio. This autumn we'll have the newest version of the radio! It's small; portable; and gets power from a solar panel, hand crank, AC adaptor and AAA batteries. The American Red Cross recommends each home have a portable radio as part of their disaster kit.

  • Professional Underwriting on-air credits are available to you or your business with a pledge of $250 or more. Members receive an on-air flight of underwriting credits equivalent to the dollar amount of your pledge. The credits run throughout the year and can include your name or business name, location and services or products.

  • With a Dollar a Day pledge of $365 you can be an on-air guest host for your favorite WKMS program. While up at the WKMS studios you can share your thoughts on the show with the host, collaborate on the program's playlist, and send out a greeting to friends and family while being a radio personality for a day!

  • Lastly, by pledging $1,000 or more to your public radio station you are guaranteed an invitation to the WKMS Grand Supper Club. This annual event is hosted by Murray State University President Randy J. Dunn and his wife Ronda, on the lawn of Oakhurst.

Thank you!

How WKMS is funded

Why does WKMS fundraise twice a year?

The support WKMS receives from individual contributors shows that our community believes that this public radio station is a cultural institution worthy of support. Our listener’s financial contributions to the station leverage support from other funding sources, including Murray State University, business underwriters, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

Listeners primarily from the station’s signal reach in western Kentucky, southern Illinois, and northwestern Tennessee contribute one third of the operating revenues and a fifth of all total revenues for WKMS. These revenues enable the station to produce regional and subscribe to national programming content, to acquire and activate new broadcast technologies (including the recent addition of HD broadcasting capability), signal expansion, employment and training of Murray State University students, as well as, to offset normal operating expenses.

How does WKMS receive pledges of support?

WKMS receives pledges in four different ways.

  • Direct Mail - Members mail in pledge cards they receive in the mail from WKMS. Pledge cards can be returned to WKMS at 2018 University Station, Murray, KY 42071.
  • On-air - During the on-air portion of the WKMS fundraiser our listeners and members will call 800.599.4737, speak with a volunteer, and make their pledge of support to the station.
  • Web - Listeners and members can visit http://www.wkms.org/ and will be directed to our online pledge form here. Making a pledge online is quick, your information is safe and secure, and it's the GREEN way to give.
  • Racer-thon - WKMS has a wonderful relationship with the Murray State University Racer-Thon Phone Program. MSU student callers contact members and friends on behalf of WKMS to update demographic data and to solicit donations on behalf of the radio station.

The station maintains a secure web pledge site at wkms.org where contributions are welcome. The station also accepts donations by mail. Checks should be made payable to WKMS/MSU Foundation and mailed to WKMS, 2018 University Station, Murray, KY  42071.

For further information, call 800-599-4737 or e-mail wkms@murraystate.edu.

If you are interested in volunteering, contact Jenni Todd by sending an email to wkmsmembership@murraystate.edu or by giving her a call at 800-599-4737.
