A half-million dollar demolition project is complete on a downtown Paducah building. The city now looks to turn the vacant lot at 432 Broadway into a pop-up park in the short term before selling the property to a private developer.
The city will receive a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant toward the full cost of the demolition project. That grant requires a $125,000 match from the city to pay for the additional contractors’ work, which included reinforcement work on the adjacent building at 430 Broadway.
It would have cost the city around $2 million just to stabilize the condemned building, which was more than 120 years old. For the history behind the building from the McCracken County Public Library's Local and Family History department, click here.
