Northwest Tennessee state Representative Tim Wirgau, whose district includes Henry, Stewart and Benton counties, lost a re-election bid in the Republican Primary on Thursday to challenger Bruce Griffey.
Wirgau, who owns a printing business in Paris, has represented the 75th district since 2010.
Griffey is an attorney and describes himself on Facebook as a constitutional conservative that supports President Trump and Christian family values. He says he is pro-life, second-amendment, welfare reform, lower taxes, limited government and job growth.
He faces Democratic retired NASA aerospace engineer Richard Carl in the November election.
