Barkley Regional Airport Saw Growth in Number of Outbound Passengers in 2017

Matt Markgraf, WKMS

Barkley Regional Airport is looking back on a year of growth in 2017.

Manager Richard Roof said the airport is ahead in the number of passengers flown compared to this time in 2016.

Roof said the airport has flown more than 20,000 outbound passengers on United Express - an increase of about 1,500 from last year. He calls this a typical growth rate.

“The service has gone along considerably smoothly this year, and everything has operated for the most part on a regular basis.” Roof said.

Roof said some projects that are ongoing or beginning in 2018 include replacing all illuminated airfield signs, billing and resurfacing taxiways and sewer line improvements. Those improvements include connecting a sewer line from the airport to the McCracken Joint Sewer Agency, which will eliminated the need for the airport to operate a package treatment plant.

Roof said a review of the airport's Master Plan will be completed in a few months. The review is required every five to 10 years by the Federal Flight Agency and is a study used to determine the long-term development of the airport.
