Barkley Regional Airport is using $1.88 million in grant money from the Federal Aviation Administration for airport improvement projects.

Each year, the FAA awards one-million dollars to airports with more than 10,000 passengers per year. Barkley averages 40,000 passengers per year and will receive the one million allotted by the grant plus $800,000 of money rolled over from last year.

Barkley Regional Airport Marketing Director Eddie Grant said this year’s grant will go to resurfacing taxiways, replacing 90 airport guidance signs with LED signs and updating Barkley’s “master plan” which outlines airport projects and is required by the FAA. Grant said these projects will begin in the next couple of months depending on the weather.
