Bill Providing ASVAB Tests To High Schoolers Passes House

A bill in Kentucky regarding high school students pursuing military service passed in the House on Friday and will advance to the Senate.

Republican Reps. Richard Heath and Tim Moore of Districts 2 and 18 respectively sponsored the bill. An 81-1 vote passed the bill through the House.

House Bill 362 would provide 10th through 12th graders in public schools the opportunity to take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery test annually.

Students would receive counseling from the ASVAB Career Exploration Program regarding their test results. Four excused absences would be granted relating to counseling and meeting with military recruiters.

Students attending basic training would be considered present for up to 10 days.

Students receiving excused absences would not have their grades affected and could make up work missed.
