Brief Traffic Halt Friday on New Lake Barkley Bridge for Underwater Demolition

Matt Markgraf, WKMS

Traffic will be briefly halted Friday morning on the New US 68/KY 80 Lake Barkley Bridge at Canton for an explosive underwater demolition.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says a contractor will temporarily halt traffic for five to 10 minutes around 10:30 a.m. to conduct an explosive demolition of one of the in-water piers on the old bridge.

The blast will be underwater so there will be little for spectators to see.

Traffic is expected to resume soon after the blast.

Boat traffic in the area will also be halted.

Matt Markgraf joined the WKMS team as a student in January 2007. He's served in a variety of roles over the years: as News Director March 2016-September 2019 and previously as the New Media & Promotions Coordinator beginning in 2011. Prior to that, he was a graduate and undergraduate assistant. He is currently the host of the international music show Imported on Sunday nights at 10 p.m.
