Candle Company Fires 91 Mayfield Employees
By Carrie Pond
Mayfield, KY – Olde South Candle Company fired 91 of its workers Friday due to a slowed economy. Employees learned of the layoffs, which took effect immediately, after reporting for work Friday. President Troy Propes says as Olde South faces the year's slowest production months and an uncertain economic outlook, the cutbacks were the most prudent step the company could take to ensure its continued presence in Mayfield. He says the company hopes to rehire employees as the economy enables it to do so, but for now it has cut back from three daily shifts to one. This is the first time Olde South has laid off its employees.
