Clarksville Trane Plant Lays Off 111
By Todd Hatton/AP
Clarksville, TN – The economic slowdown has resulted in another round of layoffs at the Trane plant in Clarksville.
Plant general manager Doug Apelt reports 111 hourly production employees are being idled today.
The plant, which manufactures heating and air conditioning equipment, laid off 91 workers in November.
The plant has been Clarksville's largest manufacturing employer since 1958.
Following the layoffs this week, the plant will employ about 15 hundred people, including hourly and salaried employees.
