A McCracken County High School junior's Eagle Scout project provides access to books in three of Paducah public parks.
The Little Free Libraries allow people to borrow, return and donate to Patrick McHaney's book boxes. They are located in the Pat and Jim Brockenborough Rotary Health Park, Robert Coleman Park and Keiler Park.
According to a release, McHaney began planning his Eagle Scout project two years ago. He designed, built and installed the libraries with the help of his father and other scouts.
He says his grandmother Marion Fillmer was his inspiration. She was a Missouri librarian and died in 2006.
The McHaney family intends to keep the libraries filled for the next few months and hopes the community will embrace the program. Little Free Libraries is an international movement that began in Wisconsin.
