Ferry Closed Between Kentucky, Missouri for up to Two Weeks

The Dorena-Hickman Ferry/Facebook

The Dorena-Hickman Ferry halted operation Tuesday, and is expected to remain closed for up to two weeks.

According to Ferry Captain Jeremy Newsom, a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dredge is working in the Hickman harbor to maintain navigation and harbor access.  Due to limited space at the mouth of the harbor, the ferry will be unable to access the Kentucky landing at Hickman while the dredge is on station. The ferry will attempt to provide timely notice when service is able to resume. The Ferry connects KY 1354 at Hickman, Kentucky, with Missouri Route A and Route 77 near Dorena, Missouri.

The Ferry Operates from the Hickman Landing with regular river crossings during daylight hours.

Missouri and Kentucky have the geographic distinction of being the only border states that are not directly connected by a road. The only direct route between the two states is the Dorena-Hickman Ferry.

For more information and a schedule of operating hours go to http://www.dorena-hickmanferryboat.com.  Motorists can also check on the ferry’s operating status by calling (731) 693-0210.
