The first actress to play Superman's love interest on screen has died at the age of 95.

Noel Neill’s biographer Larry Ward told the Associated Press she died Sunday in her home in Tucson, Arizona, following a long illness. Neill played Lois Lane in the Superman film serial in 1948 and again in the 1950's Adventures of Superman TV show. She later played Lois Lane's mother in the 1978 Superman movie and has a small role in the 2006 film Superman Returns.

Neill was a frequent guest of the annual Superman Celebration in Metropolis, Illinois. The city has a life-size bronze statue of Neill in her honor at the corner of 8th and Market Street, dubbed ‘The First Lady of Metropolis.’
