Fort Campbell Museum Commemorates D-Day with Living History Event

The 101st Airborne commemorates the events of D-Day this weekend at the Don F. Pratt Museum on Fort Campbell with a living history event.

June 6th marked the 69th anniversary of the military operation on the beaches of Normandy considered a turning point for the allied effort in World War II.

Museum director Dan Peterson said Saturday's annual free event is not a battle re-enactment but rather a chance for history buffs and military aficionados to get a close look at weapons, uniforms and equipment used by both Allied and German soldiers and hear from volunteer re-enactors.

“Some of them are active duty military here, which is pretty neat, and the reason they do it is because most of the principle battalions of the division that are here now have a lineage back to World War II and fought at Normandy," said Peterson.

The museum will be open from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm this Saturday (June 8th). Peterson said visitors will need to enter Fort Campbell through Gate 4 and visitors without an I.D. will need to acquire a visitor pass from the visitor’s center. Call the museum at (270) 798-3215 for questions or directions to the gate.
