A Fort Campbell soldier died this week near a shopping mall in Clarksville, Tennessee after his motorcycle collided with a van.

Police in Clarksville said in a release on Wednesday 23-year-old Austin McWhite died on Monday from his injuries after colliding with 77-year-old Mary Lancaster of Pembroke, Kentucky.

Lancaster attempted to make a left turn in her van onto South Hampton Place near Governor Square Mall while McWhite was traveling north on a motorcycle on Wilma Rudolph Boulevard. Police said McWhite could not avoid the collision and died on the scene as a result of his injuries.

The crash is still under investigation.
