Hundreds From Kentucky Predicted To Be In Women's March On Washington

via Women's March on Washington Kentucky Chapter Facebook Page

Buses from several Kentucky cities will be heading to Washington D.C. with people going to participate in the Women’s March on Washington, January 21st.

In their official mission statement, the Women’s March says the demonstration is meant to show solidarity with marginalized people after the “rhetoric of the past election cycle has insulted, demonized, and threatened” groups like LGBT peoples, people of color, and those of diverse religions.

Cadiz resident Jan Culwell is leaving late Friday night for Washington, and said she’s looking forward to being “part of a movement.”

“We’re just going to make sure that it’s known that there is a large group of people who are watching. And I think that’s the main focus- it’s not meant to protest anything, but to demonstrate that we are watching.” Culwell said.

First Congressional District Organizer Renea DeLong said charter buses are going to be picking up people in several Kentucky cities as organized by the Women’s March on the national level. She said in her estimates, as many as 800 people will be going to Washington, D.C. from across the state. Long said she believes that there’s never been a march like this surrounding a presidential inauguration and said it will be historic.

On local level, theMarch for Equality and Social Justice is going to start the same time in Murray as the Women’s March in Washington on January 21st.
