Kentucky Lawmakers Approve REAL ID Bill To Meet Federal Standards

KYTC

The state legislature has again passed a REAL ID bill to bring the state into compliance with stricter driver’s license policies required by the federal government.

Gov. Matt Bevin vetoed a similar version of the bill last year but has indicated he supports it this year.
Kentucky is out of compliance with federal law requiring states to strengthen their ID card security.

The bill creates an “enhanced” driver’s license that would be issued by the state Transportation Cabinet instead of county clerks offices.

Those who opt out of the new license would need additional ID like a passport to board domestic air flights and enter military bases.
