The Kentucky State Police and the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office are investigating events that led to a hostage situation in Benton.

Around 10am Monday, KSP and MCSO deputies responded to a hostage situation at a residence on Wadesboro Road in Benton. 41-year-old Ronald Fleet of Benton was seen outside the house holding a rifle.

Trooper David Dick observed Fleet retreat behind the residence before coming back out without the firearm. He was taken into custody without incident.

Investigation showed that Fleet held his girlfriend, 33-year-old Melissa Buchanan, and 2 juveniles against their will inside the house through the early hours of Monday morning. At some point, Buchanan was able to contact a family member who in turn contacted law enforcement.

Fleet is charged with several felonies including Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Wanton Endangerment, Unlawful Imprisonment and Possession of a Controlled Substance - Methamphetamine.
