KHSAA Looking Into Possible Recruiting Violations With Bowling Green High School Boy's Basketball

The Bowling Green High School boys’ basketball team is being investigated for possible recruiting violations during the team’s recent state championship season.

The Kentucky High School Athletic Association confirmed to the Courier-Journal that the organization is reviewing Bowling Green’s 2016-17 season.

A lawsuit filed last week by the school’s former girls’ basketball coach, Lavonda Johnson, says she provided information to the KHSAA about the alleged recruiting violations in the boys program.

Bowling Green won its first boys basketball title in March, capping a 36-and-2 season.

Johnson is suing the Bowling Green Independent School District Board of Education and superintendent Gary Fields over her firing in August. Johnson, who is African-American, said she was fired because the school wanted her to replace black assistant coaches with whites.

Bowling Green principal William King has called that allegation a “bold-faced lie.”
