The filing deadline for Independent candidates on the November general election ballot in Kentucky is on Tuesday.

Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes said the candidates must file their petition of nomination and pay a filing fee no later than 4 p.m. local time.

Most independent, political organization or group candidates must have filed a statement of candidacy form by last April to be qualified. Public drawings for ballot positions are at 2 p.m. local time on Thursday.

Locally, Calloway County Deputy Judge/Executive and former sheriff Bill Marcum is running as an Independent for Calloway County Judge Executive. (Current Judge/Exec. Larry Elkins is running for State Rep.). Marcum said on Monday he has gathered enough signatures to be on the ballot and submitted the petition last Friday. He faces retiring Republican State Rep. Kenny Imes, Democratic businessman James Gallimore and Vincent Costello of the Veterans Party of America.

Matt Markgraf joined the WKMS team as a student in January 2007. He's served in a variety of roles over the years: as News Director March 2016-September 2019 and previously as the New Media & Promotions Coordinator beginning in 2011. Prior to that, he was a graduate and undergraduate assistant. He is currently the host of the international music show Imported on Sunday nights at 10 p.m.
