Multiple insurance companies have submitted proposed rates to the Department of Insurance that would raise rates throughout the Commonwealth in 2019.
Anthem Health Plans of Kentucky are requesting an average rate increase of 3.5 percent across 13 different plan offerings. The healthcare provider is also proposing an expansion to cover 17 additional counties beginning next year.
CareSource is requesting a rate increase of 19.4 percent for 12 plan offerings with no expansion proposals.
DOI Commissioner Nancy Atkins said the increased percentages for 2019 are not as high as previous years and policyholders could see rate decreases.
The initial filings are preliminary and subject to change.
