Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area will conduct a prescribed burn in the Franklin Creek area this week.

Fire Management Specialist Todd Lerke said the burn is an effort to reduce hazardous fuels and improve forest health and diversity. The burn is weather dependent and will cover 2,641 acres.

Smoke will be visible and may have short term effects on surrounding communities. The bulk of the smoke will last two or three days. Franklin Creek is in the north central part of LBL. Forest Service officials advise to keep windows, doors, and vents closed at night to reduce exposure.

Management may also continue treatments in open lands near Brandon Springs and Crossroads areas.
