Land Between the Lakes Taking Early Reservations for Eclipse

Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area is taking early reservations for camping for next August, when a total solar eclipse is occurring.

The Aug. 21 total eclipse will be visible from the contiguous United States for the first time since 1979. The maximum viewpoint for the totality of the moon covering the sun will be around nearby Hopkinsville.

Land Between the Lakes Customer Service Manager Jeff Laird says there are some 1,400 campsites, with a portion available for reservations. Laird says programs are planned at the park around the eclipse event.

Land Between the Lakes manages more than 170,000 acres in western Kentucky and Tennessee as part of the U.S. Forest Service and Department of Agriculture's public lands program. It draws more than 1.4 million visitors annually.
