The hand grenade is located behind the First United Methodist Church in Murray.

Update: Murray Police Department said the grenade was checked by Kentucky State Police's Hazardous Device Unit and the Paducah Police Bomb Squad and was determined to be live. Police say the device has been secured and taken to a separate location where it will be destroyed.

Roads in downtown Murray are back open and the area is clear.

Original Story:

Murray City Police along with the Paducah Bomb Squad are investigating a potentially live grenade found by a resident while cleaning a home.

Murray Sgt. Brant Shutt said the person delivered the grenade to the Murray Police Department Tuesday afternoon.

Shutt said police have relocated the grenade to an area between the intersection of 5th and Poplar streets. Police have set up a perimeter around the area while they wait for the Paducah Bomb Squad to determine whether or not the grenade is live.
