Madisonville Elects First Openly LGBTQ City Council Member

Misty Cavanaugh For City Council Facebook Page

Madisonville elected the city’s first openly LGBTQ city council member in Tuesday’s midterm election.

Independent candidate Misty Cavanaugh won the seat for the First Ward against Independent James Daniels.

Cavanaugh said she believes her win said “a lot about how wonderful and inclusive the community and people are in Madisonville.”

Pennyrile Pride Alliance founder Cody Mitchell Lander said Cavanaugh’s win shows that enough progress has been made in Madisonville that someone’s LGBTQ status is not a hindrance to their success on the ballot.
