McCracken Co Humane Society Director To Resign

By Chad Lampe

Murray , KY – The McCracken County Humane Society Director has announced her pending resignation after an investigation found inhumane euthanasia practices at the shelter. Shirley Greenfield Grimes in a statement issued last night says her resignation will be effective at the next humane society board meeting in early December. Grimes served as the director for 34 years. In the statement Grimes expresses her sadness over the revelations of the inappropriate euthanasia practices. Grimes announcement follows an investigation of the shelter and the release of an undercover video showing scenes such as a pile of dead cats and dogs reacting to euthanasia, when they should have first been sedated. The Paducah Sun reports no charges are filed against Grimes, but the employee who euthanized the animals improperly faces charges of violating state statues.
