Mongiardo Considers Running for Governor
Former Kentucky Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo says he's considering a run to become the Commonwealth’s governor. Mongiardo is a Democrat who served under Gov. Steve Beshear during his first term. The 52-year-old Hazard physician served in the state Senate from 2001 to 2007.
He ran for U.S. Senate in 2004, but lost to incumbent Republican Jim Bunning. Beshear chose another running mate in 2009 because of Mongiardo’s unsuccessful 2010 Senate run. Mongiardo says Secretary of State Allison Lundergan Grimes has the attributes he would look for in a running mate.
