Murray State Board of Regents to Set Tuition and Fees for Next Academic Year

Matt Markgraf, WKMS

The Murray State University Board of Regents will authorize tuition and mandatory fee rates and housing and dining rates for the next academic year in a special meeting on Friday.

MSU is considering a 5% tuition increase. President Bob Davies has said 3% would cover fixed costs and 2% would go toward one-time expenditures. Davies outlined this increase in a forum earlier this month.

The board will review a summary outlining the next budget, which is expected to have action in June. Davies has said $1.1 million dollars will be cut from specific units and another $3 million at the macro level.

There will also be board action involving ‘Intercollegiate Athletics.’ Some media outlets have speculated Murray State potentially leaving the Ohio Valley Conference to fill a vacancy in the Missouri Valley Conference, but the President’s Office would not confirm if this will be the discussion.

Matt Markgraf joined the WKMS team as a student in January 2007. He's served in a variety of roles over the years: as News Director March 2016-September 2019 and previously as the New Media & Promotions Coordinator beginning in 2011. Prior to that, he was a graduate and undergraduate assistant. He is currently the host of the international music show Imported on Sunday nights at 10 p.m.
