Murray State Football Coach Announces Recent Hires, Promotions

goracers.com

Murray State University Athletics has announced several hires and promotions to the Football staff. Coach Mitch Stewart promoted three staff members and hired seven, including a graduate assistant.

The announcement comes at a time of intense budgetary pressure on campus due, in large part, to declining state appropriation and increasing pension liability.

Athletics Media Relations Assistant Parker Griffith stressed the move is not an ‘upping’ of investment but rather a university-approved filling of open positions. "It was just filling what was already there just like any other university position,” Griffith said. He added that none of the positions are new.

Griffith said the hiring began in January but Athletics decided to wait until everyone was hired before making the announcement.

“I think coach went out and looked for the most competent people, the best fits he could find and I think that’s what he got. And I think they’re going to step in and I expect it to be a seamless transition,” Griffith said.

Internal Promotions:

  • Jake Johnson - defensive coordinator
  • Brian Hamilton - assistant head coach
  • Carson Hunter - recruiting coordinator

Hires:

  • Nick Coleman - offensive coordinator
  • Alex Suber - inside wide receivers coach
  • Tate Omli - safeties coach, special teams coordinator
  • Charles Jones - cornerbacks coach
  • Walter Vaughn - defensive line coach
  • Brandon Corbin - equipment manager
  • Josh Hollingsworth - offensive graduate assistant

Football season kicks off August 30 with a home game against Southern Illinois.
