Poets & Writers magazine ranked Murray State's MFA Program the 7th best low-residency program in the nation in 2013. The program is now in its 10th year and to celebrate, special events held this summer include a recent alumni celebration with readings and workshops and a day dedicated to regional writers this Wednesday. Associate Director of the program Carrie Jerrell speaks with Kate Lochte on Sounds Good about the events.
Carrie Jerrell is the Associate Director of the MFA program at Murray State. A practicing poet, she won the Anthony Hecht Poetry Prize in 2009 for her book After the Revival, which is described as "equal parts church hymnal and outlaw country album."
Murray State University's MFA program sponsors a Regional Writers Celebration this Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The day features concurrent poetry and prose readings and panels from 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., a reception and book fair from 4:15-6:30 p.m., and a capstone reading by nonfiction writer Nicole Walker from 6:30-7:30 p.m. All events take place in the Clara Eagle Gallery and its adjacent lecture halls.
