Virginia Gray of Hopkinsville said she is “humbled” and “extremely excited” to be appointed as one of Murray State University’s Board of Regents.

Gray is manager of government relations for the Tennessee Valley Authority. She was also recently appointed to the Tennessee Valley Corridor, an organization she said focuses on federal partnerships for economic development in both the public and private sectors. Gray wants to marry the mission of the Corridor with Murray State graduates.

“We have access to Oak Ridge National Lab, NASA at Huntsville, Redstone Arsenal at Arnold Air Force base,” Gray said.

“And when you when you look at the amount of soldiers that are coming off the post at Fort Campbell, 400 a month, what can we do to try and retain those persons to keep them in our communities?” Gray said Murray State can play an integral role.

Gray, a Western Kentucky University graduate, said while she isn’t a MSU alumna, her husband and his family are graduates of Murray State.

She said that Murray State is the “lifeblood” of far west Kentucky and has many ideas to keep the institution a pulse for economic development.

Gray’s term expires June 2024. This appointment fills one of two vacancies on the board.
