The Purchase Area Community Reuse Organization (PACRO) approved changes to their bylaws Wednesday that takes away the mayor of Paducah’s power to appoint a board member.
PACRO is a regional organization designed to mitigate economic effects of the shuttered Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant.
McCracken County Judge Executive Craig Clymer says the decision reverses a change first proposed by former Judge Executive Bob Leeper. The change then allowed the Paducah mayor appoint one of the three board members to represent the city and county.
The Judge Executive previously appointed all three members. Clymer said members of PACRO approached him and asked if he would support the change to remove the choice from the Mayor.
He said he agreed but will appoint people that represent his constituents. “Here’s going to be my position: if the county gets three and the city gets none, you have to understand that I’m elected by all of the citizens of McCracken County. City and county people,” Clymer said.
Clymer said he spoke with Paducah Mayor Brandi Harless earlier this week to let her know about the then proposed bylaw change.
Clymer and McCracken County Fiscal Court Member Eddie Jones were appointed to the PACRO board Wednesday.
