Paducah City Commission Votes To Keep Veterans Day Parade Resolution

Matt Markgraf, WKMS

The Paducah City Commission voted Tuesday to keep a 2017 commision resolution regarding the Veterans Day Parade and who can participate.

The resolution limits the flags used in the parade to only the United States flag and the Veterans of the United States Armed Forces flag.

More than a dozen people addressed the board in support of keeping the resolution intact before Mayor Pro Tem Richard Abraham made a motion to repeal it.

Abraham has saidthe resolution does not reference the display of flags in the parade and has been misinterpreted to negatively affect the community.

The motion failed with a one-to-three vote. Abraham was the only member who voted to make the repeal. Commissioners Gerald Watkins, Brenda McElroy and Sandra Wilson voted to keep the resolution.
